 MySpace deletes 29,000 sex offenders

Tue Jul 24, 2007 6:14PM EDT
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Popular Internet social network MySpace said on Tuesday it detected and deleted 29,000 convicted sex offenders on its service, more than four times the figure it had initially reported.

The company, owned by media conglomerate News Corp, said in May it had deleted about 7,000 user profiles that belonged to convicted offenders. MySpace attracts about 60 million unique visitors monthly in the United States.

The new information was first revealed by U.S. state authorities after MySpace turned over information on convicted sex offenders it had removed from the service.

"The exploding epidemic of sex offender profiles on MySpace -- 29,000 and counting -- screams for action," Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal said in a statement.

Blumenthal, who led a coalition of state authorities to lobby MySpace for more stringent safeguards for minors, and other state AGs have demanded the service begin verifying a user's age and require parental permission for minors.

The minimum age to register on MySpace is 14.

"We're pleased that we've successfully identified and removed registered sex offenders from our site and hope that other social networking sites follow our lead," MySpace Chief Security Officer Hemanshu Nigam said in a statement.

The service has come under attack over the past year after some of its young members fell prey to adult predators posing as minors. The families of several teenage girls sexually assaulted by MySpace members sued the service in January for failing to safeguard its young members.

Late last year, it struck a partnership with background verification company Sentinel Tech Holdings Corp. to co-develop the first U.S. national database of convicted sex offenders to make it easier to track offenders on the Internet.

Convicted sex offenders are required by law to register their contact information with local authorities. But the information has only been available on regional databases, making nationwide searches difficult.

As of May, there were about 600,000 registered sex offenders in the United States.

Prompted by Nursey's post this day...

OK, I was raised old school...where you actually worked around the house and yard.I also used to go work with my Opa on the weekends doing things like cutting trees, splitting and reducing them to cord wood, gardening, painting.etc.We moved when I was 10 and we gutted the old house, re-wired,plumbed,insulated, drywalled, paneled, floored
painted the exterior and cut the field and made a garden approx 25' x 125'.Then I got to excavate the crawl space under the house from 4' to around 7'...this took around 6 mos part time and was the main base of my ability to work my ass off and not whine.after that I had a summer job working in a gladiola field...it sucked, the stems are quite sharp and an armload is heavy.OK, now I am 15 and in Voc school for Commercial Foods, still doing chores at home, of course.
After school, I was an asshole and turned down a trip to Europe to become a chef and just worked temp jobs instead...your typical unsure graduate.Best temp job I had was doing labor on a Pillsbury delivery truck...this was in the 1974 sugar shortage and all the guys that worked there in the w-house and driving were crooks...they overloaded the trucks and sold the extra at the deliver point for 60 cents on the dollar.Which meant for 11-13 hrs work I got 42$ in straight pay and from 60-120$ from the drivers(sweet)actually far more cash that alot of men were making. Then I came to work for the Underwood Corp (deviled ham)doing kitchen and asst sweat work around the place...nice gig, good money and O my the sweet young babes! The bookeeper was another story..ahem.Then I went to work for Owens Illinois at a bottle making facility in my hometown of Mansfield Mass.It was a riotous time, worked rotating shifts and I was decidedly alcoholic and addicted to Meth by choice...long before it was made in tubs in trailers in the woods by morons.I also had a successful gambling career and made some money in direct distribution, if you get my drift. It was a time I can write volumes on.Twixt 78 and 79 I had a breakdown and recovered miraculously or so my shrink said.1979 sucked, recession and all, so I went and re-educated myself in Wastewater Treatment plant operations and tested for and got my certification by the Comm fo Mass...and worked in that field until 1988.And poof I came to Florida and got into Construction testing for 9 yrs. Then went to Alaska, got badly food poisoned and came back here...NOTE: do not get sick there the DRs are fucking morons.Came back here and got into Customer service and sales for Boat US corp, then MCI/Worldcom who screwed us all but I made many good acquaintances there. Then it was Time Warner cable TV where I loved my job but the bitch I worked for was a hormonal psycho that canned me for no reason.Just as well for my Mom's emphysema was worsening and then she got cancer for the 4th time and this allowed me to care for her for the last days of her life. After that the timeline gets fuzzy since in 2002 an old man cut right across the highway into the path of my car(a lovely customized 1998 Altima I had damn near 30K into)and forced me to crash bigtime and destroy my car and almost render me paralyzed and concussed to the point of barely having short term recall(it came back)but alas the old dude died 89 yrs old, way too old to drive and underinsured also.
So I went on disability and sued their insurance for whatever and here I am.Happy to be alive every day blessed with enough to have what I need and occasionally something I want...whew, boring, huh? BC

My, what you can find out WITHOUT Google...

I had wondered what would come up if I searched for a "privelged young talented black man, halfassed quarterback alive only by hype who has or could have whatever he wanted if he were not a punkassed wanna be gangsta and now a federally indicted dumbassed motherfucker"
I learned all this from observation myself!!...one more thing...just look at the eyes on that prick and tell me he is a nice guy..NOT!
I hope he gets max time for using and abusing those poor dogs, then killing them most heinously. You can read the indictment at www.thesmokingun.com...tho it WILL get you angry, etc. BC
Tommy and John did not sacifice the medals in Mexico just so some asshole could push integration back a few steps...when they made their statement I was proud to be in the USA where they could, without being shot.

 Police red-faced as Porsche stolen-twice

Wed Jul 18, 2007 12:57 PM ET

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Malaysian police were left red-faced after a man who abandoned the theft of a $280,000 Porsche for lack of fuel attempted the crime a second time and drove the sportscar out of a police station, local media said.

The suspect had first attempted the theft on Monday at a luxury car showroom in northern Penang state, local papers said. Dressed smartly in a suit and tie, he asked for the car keys and promptly sped off, smashing through the glass windows.

The car was later found abandoned a short distance away, its fuel tank empty.

The New Straits Times said the man kept the keys and returned with a canister of petrol to a local police station where the car had been towed. He drove off with the Porsche, ditching it later after he discovered roadblocks had been set up to stop him.

Police were hunting for the suspect, the paper said.
now that is one bold sumbitch! BC
