 Reflections on Manic Depression...

...its a disease that is insidious and does more to force the person suffering to NOT seek treatment than any other, I believe. The whole deal is that when you are manic, the world is YOURS and you can do no wrong. The chemicals that your brain is feeding you give a high that could never be found in any drug and the effect is to addict one to that feeling...aka rush. You literally pray for the mania to return when the depression comes, for it is the blackest nastiest kind.My life was surely to be ended somehow without treatment, but with the help of family, mainly my Mom and faith in God, I did go to a facility and get tuned up.I not only responded but the Drs. told me that I exceeded expectations greatly. This was because I understood what had happened to me and I was certain my life would NEVER go down that path again. It was a horrorshow and anyone that does not use the meds and stay on them,as I have for 29 years,is doomed to live a life of tragedy and probably die or get killed somehow, since manic people are inherently scary.Remain a friend, but never kid glove the issue!Tell the person that treatment is the only avenue of real help in their life and that you will be a loyal friend and stay the course if they will at least try...if they are so far gone that they do not care, there is nothing you can do.
The only caveat for treatment is to avoid being fed zoo drugs just for the sake of the medical protocol...Manic Depression is not psychosis but many Docs give those meds anyway and they will crush the will and have such bad side effects its worse than the disease was...too many people have the wrong notion about this condition and
do not know that its genetic and cannot be helped, just hopefully eased by treatment. TCBS BC

This was very touching, had to post...

Gold Wrapping Paper"
I received this from a friend who had a choice to make. It said that I had a choice to make too.
I've chosen. Now it's your turn to choose.
The story goes that some time ago a mother punished her five year old daughter for wasting a roll of expensive gold wrapping paper. Money was tight and she became even more upset when the child used the gold paper to decorate a box to put under the Christmas tree.

Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift box to her mother the next morning and then said, "This is for you, Momma."

The mother was embarrassed by her earlier over reaction, but her anger flared again when she opened the box and found it was empty. She spoke to her daughter in a harsh manner.

"Don't you know, young lady, when you give someone a present there's supposed to be something inside the package?"

She had tears in her eyes and said, "Oh, Momma, it's not empty! I blew kisses into it until it was full."

The mother was crushed. She fell on her knees and put her arms around her little girl, and she begged her forgiveness for her thoughtless anger.

An accident took the life of the child only a short time later, and it is told that the mother kept that gold
box by her bed for all the years of her life.

Whenever she was discouraged or
faced difficult problems she would open the box and take out an imaginary kiss and remember the love of the child who had put it there.

In a very real sense, each of us, as human beings, have been given a Golden box filled with unconditional love
and kisses from our children, family, friends and GOD. There is no more precious possession anyone could hold.

You now have two choices:
1. Pass this on to your friends, or
2. Delete it and act like it! didn't touch your heart.

As you can see, I took choice No. 1. BC
